POSITION: District Family Advocate Grant Funded Probationary/Permanent

LOCATION: Madras High School FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt

HOURS: 8 hours per day
WAGES: $21.92 – 23.07 / hour (2018-2019 Salary Schedule to be determined) (Benefited Position)
JOB SUMMARY
Serves as a resource to students and families in the county who are in need of assistance in meeting basic needs for food, shelter, clothing and support and connecting these families with the resources available to assist them.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential duties of this position include the following. Employees in this position perform some or all of the following tasks. Other duties may be assigned.
- Follows and maintains knowledge of all District policy(ies) and procedures.
- Supports children and families with meeting basic needs by connecting them to services available within the community and leveraging emergency funds to assist with immediate needs (rent, food, clothing, etc.).
- Distributes school supplies, hygiene supplies and clothing to homeless students.
- Serve as a liaison for students and parents/guardians for outside resources in community by building relationships with agency staff, students and families.
- Maintain current and accurate list of resources available within the community to serve students and families.
- Effectively reach out to students and families in need and assist them with accessing social service
- Be available for students and families to ask questions and seek assistance.
- Seek to empower students and families through training, development of action plans and assistance.
- Maintain accurate records of activities including intake forms, tracking and compiling reports of
- Be visible in school and community promoting the mission and services of the family advocate.
- Conduct home visits, delivery and pick up of supplies.
- Actively communicate with staff in schools to identify students and families in need of outreac
- Refer student and parents to community agencies for services.
- Participate effectively at regular team meetings with other advocates and outside agencies using appropriate social skills, problem solving and conflict resolution strategies.
- Interacts thoughtfully and courteously with students, staff and parents and resolves conflict in a professional manne
- Appropriately maintain and secure confidential records and inquiries.
- Professionally represent the school and the District in interactions with parents, community, staff, and
- Maintain appropriate certifications and training hours as require
- Attend work regularly and is punctual.
- Attend school district level meetings addressing chronic absenteeism.

QUALIFICATIONS/ PREFERENCES
- Must be “Highly Qualified” (see below)
- Minimum of one-year experience in a social services agency or organization preferred
- Bilingual preferred
- Experience with high poverty and high risk populations
To be “Highly Qualified”, an Educational Assistant requires a high school diploma or the equivalent, and one of the following:
- An Associate's degree
- Two years of study at an institution of higher education - 72 credit hours
- Passed the District Assessment for educational assistants in the areas of reading, writing, math and pedagogy
